Helium Mobile To Support Solana's Saga Smartphone
Heliums announces they will bring their Helium mobile service to Solana's Saga smartphone. In a vote that moved Helium from their own network and onto Solana, the ecosystems are working on connecting their mobile initiatives through this new partnership.
Previously, the decentralized wireless network Helium voted to move from its own network and onto Solana. Now, Helium is set to work with Solana on connecting their mobile initiatives through a new partnership.
During Solana's conference, Breakpoint, Helium (alongside Solana Labs) announced they were bringing their Helium mobile service (smartphone carrier powered in part by T-Mobile) to Solana's Saga smartphone, a crypto-oriented mobile phone. Both are set to launch in early 2023, with Saga users residing in the USA getting a free 30-day trial for Helium Mobile (unlimited voice/text).
"Not only will this partnership ultimately drive usage to the Helium Network,” Boris Renski, GM of wireless at Nova Labs said, “but Saga customers who sign up for Helium Mobile will be able to have a seamless and integrated user experience and could earn crypto rewards for using their cell service.”
Helium Mobile is supposed to offer plans as cheap as $5 per month, according to Nova Labs. Users can opt into earning crypto tokens by sharing their location data with the network, which helps Helium Mobile stabilize their coverage.
Solana’s Saga smartphone was revealed back in June 2022 and provides powerful Android hardware at a price of $1,000. It’s built using the Solana Mobile Stack, which is a software bundle that powers improved mobile Web3 apps. The phone can be used for crypto payments (such as Solana pay), as a bank account, and more. Pre-orders are open now ahead of the early 2023 launch.
