Telefónica, Mexico's 2nd Largest Mobile Carrier, Partners with Nova Labs to Launch Helium Mobile Hotspots
Telefónica, Mexico's second-largest mobile carrier, partners with Nova Labs to launch innovative Helium Mobile Hotspots, enhancing mobile coverage and connectivity in Mexico City and Oaxaca.
In a strategic move, Telefónica, the second-largest mobile carrier in Mexico, has partnered with Nova Labs to launch Helium Mobile Hotspots, a revolutionary step in mobile network coverage, particularly enhancing connectivity in Mexico City and Oaxaca. This partnership represents a significant expansion of Telefónica's mobile coverage by offloading data to the Helium Mobile Network, allowing customers to connect securely using their existing Movistar SIM cards.
Developed on the OpenWifi standard by the Telecom Infra Project (TIP), this solution is designed for efficiency and security. Telefónica controls the customer experience through a proprietary management system, ensuring seamless and secure access to the Helium Network. This initiative not only improves network coverage but also reduces infrastructure costs, benefiting both the environment and local communities involved in deploying these hotspots.
The Helium Mobile Network, leveraging Solana's blockchain technology, provides a transparent economic system for expanding coverage in crucial areas. The hotspots are compact and easy to install, facilitating the growth of mobile data coverage.
Emphasizing the project's significance, José Juan Haro, Telefónica’s Chief Wholesale and Public Affairs Officer, highlights the innovation in expanding network coverage. Amir Haleem, CEO of Nova Labs, echoes this sentiment, recognizing the global impact of this collaboration.
With Telefónica serving a vast customer base and Helium Mobile's impressive growth, including 10,000 new users in early January 2024, this partnership marks a pivotal moment in making mobile network services more accessible and cost-effective globally.
